What got you into Parkour

I'd like to think I've been doing Parkour ever since I was born. I've always been climbing, jumping and swinging on things. Parkour just gives it all a name.

What habit do you have now that you wish you started earlier?

While it might seem simple now, pointing my toes when jumping has made a world of difference in my training. It means you are always prepared, always ready for the next jump. It's the preparedness that really sticks with me.

What do you think makes a good coach?

Personality and Involvement. I would hate for someone with a bad attitude to be teaching my kids. They will absorb the negativity like a sponge. A good coach is someone with a positive attitude that cares about their students.

Whats a skill you'd like to learn and why?

Giants (Swinging completely around a horizontal bar). I as a kid (and still now) I was really into Ninjas and the cool things they could do. Something about that level of control and power is something I'd like to have.

What got you into Parkour

A video from Urban Freeflow called "Guerrillas" in the midst. Just something I could immediately run outside and do, and continued doing.

What habit do you have now that you wish you started earlier?

Counting to 3 and just doing a challenge, chore, workout...makes it easy to force myself into hard to commit excersises.

What do you think makes a good coach?

I can really vicariously celebrate the success of a student so once we start working on a skill I'm determined to find the route they learn through. Every coach needs to just as much (if not more) invested in the students training as the student.

Whats fine in small numbers but terrible in large numbers?

Problems.

What got you into Parkour

David Belle, the founder of Parkour, made this video called: "Speed Air Man". I wanted to go out and immediately do what I'd seen.

What habit do you have now that you wish you started earlier?

Waking up early almost every day.

What do you think makes a good coach?

Someone that the student remembers as an important influence in their life when they're older. The same way my track coaches are for me.

Would you rather fight 1 horse sized duck or 100 duck sized horses?

Horse-sized duck for sure. Let it swallow you then destroy it from the inside.

What got you into Parkour

MTV's Ultimate parkour challenge pilot. After watching the show I looked up videos on the internet and started practicing vaults with my friend.

What habit do you have now that you wish you started earlier?

Stretching my ankles before training. I spent years with really weak ankles and always injured them. I've just now started noticing strength and durability in them.

What do you think makes a good coach?

I feel like someone who has spent many years perfecting their own style and movement in parkour makes them a good coach. Everyone moves differently so learning how your own body moves will help you aid others in finding how their body moves.

If you had superpowers what would they be?

Telekinesis is the end all be all superpower. You can control things with your mind including yourself. So not only can I move objects around me I can stop objects from hurting me. If I can control movements over my body, I can control myself and make sure I'm in the air however long I need to be. Parkour would no longer have limits because I can basically levitate.

What got you into Parkour

Introduced by my friends when I was sophomore in high school.

What habit do you have now that you wish you started earlier?

Training small scale basic movements to get better at technique for larger challenges.

What do you think makes a good coach?

Being able to acknowledge the entire classes strengths and weaknesses and adjusting a lesson so every kid walks away learning the same skill in their own way.

If you had a superpower what would it be?

Telekinesis because it's the end all super power. You can fly and have "super strength" and be nasty at parkour all with your brain.

UMass Parkour and Gymnastics

What habit do you have now that you wish you started earlier?

Stretching out my IT band. It's attached to your knee and helps move the joint. If this gets tight, jumping is gonna feel terrible.

What do you think makes a good coach?

Acknowledging and teaching to an individuals personal progression.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

To have the ability to naturally survive in space.
